Button mounted on the left side of the clutch pedal?

    What is the small button mounted on the left side of the clutch next to the headlight dimmer switch? Its small and round and I cannot figure out what it does?

    Looks like you have a 57? I have a 70 and I've asked the same question. It looks like the base of an old antenna mount. I dug around underneath and there's a cable coming out that snakes towards the rear axle. I don't have a clue. I'll get a picture of mine and post it later.

    Sounds like a PO mod. Starter. Utton on the real earlies are to the right of the throttle pedal.

    So do you just turn the key to the on position and push the button with my foot?

    Picture is fuzzy but it looks like a Schrader valve for air bags or shocks maybe?

    Air shocks - they were all the rage years ago.

    Foot starters were on the flatties mostly (though I have seen some in real early 5s). It was up and to the inside of the gas pedal - heal on gas, toe on starter. It was sometimes mechanical and just a leaver that manually pushed the selenoid or hit a switch on it to engage it. Key was on or off (or just a switch). The first 3 willys we had were all like that.

    The foot starter actually eliminated any need for a solenoid. It operated a linkage to a high-amperage switch right on the starter. Some variants (Willys trucks, etc) it also physically threw the starter gear into engagement, instead of a bendix. No solenoid.

    I thought some of these old Jeeps had a dead pedal next to the clutch, that looked like a round switch. Just a place to rest your foot. Is this true?

    M38A1 had a mushroom head stand-off on the far right, to steady the foot on the gas pedal. Never saw one for the clutch foot.

    My 1934 Ford pickup has one too.

    Real handy in rough country, I like them.

    On mine it is some device with a hose barb. It has a round pedal, around 2"diameter.
