Really a very good day. The hood didn't fly up break the glass etc or cause a major accident. My son did it with his Saturn ruined the Hood, windshield and the top of the car was dented hard. He was is lucky to be around after that /in Los Angeles traffic moving way to fast.. Glad he made it.

Glad you are fine and ready to fight another day!

Maybe a good time to consider a Renegade I type paint scheme for the hood, if the color will allow it. Not sure if that would cover the damaged area or not and, it may be bit of a JEEP sin. Personally, I always dug the early Renegade stripes. Rattle can the windshield frame damage temporarily.

Sigh...my luck. So I took off the now-too-loose soft top and replace it with the bikini top so I could bring it to work the very day after the incident; I needed to show it to a couple buddies to get their opinion on the repair...

Buddy #2 decided to open the hood to see the damage on the underside, right as I happened to receive some shocking unrelated news from buddy #1, distracting me from the job at hand. Of course, as my luck would have it, he never re-latched the hood. On the way home, it happened again, this time warping the windshield frame enough that I had a FEW inches of slack to pull out of the straps holding down the top.

Ugh. Two days in a row. And now, the windshield latches on the dash don't even hold the windshield down: you can actually pop the latches up without even opening them, if that makes sense. And to top it off, I still can't see where it's bent to know what specifically needs to be fixed! Anyway, needless to say I'm pretty frustrated with my luck, and I don't know how to fix the frame. I updated the first post with a link to the pics, and it's here too: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/3148157/2/CJ5/damage?h=cb4544

Any tips on the best methods and materials for shimming the windshield frame?

From one squid to another I have a couple hoods running around if it comes to that. Pay shipping from ct and its yours. Or maybe a road trip is in order

mine did that while the windshield frame was getting new glass.
    instant headache
luckily it was on a rural road, no one witnessed the tears
new glass because i forgot the frame was behind me as i backed up
it was a bad week, but now you can find a perfectly straight ventilating windshield frame!!!

put reflective tape, or a little flag on the driver side latch so you can see it while driving.
