    Permatex.

Do they even make gaskets for them anymore?

TJ came from the factory with gray permatex.

I personally use a gasket and Ultra Black.....................
I can't think of a diff. that Fel Pro doesn't make a gasket for.

Ditto on silicone lightly smeared on a regular gasket. After making sure the gasket surfaces are good and clean, I like to put a light film of grease on the axle housing. This way the next time it is disassembled, the gasket hopefully sticks to the cover, which is easier to clean up in a parts washer or on the bench. Not so easy to stick the diff housing in a parts washer, even if you removed it from the Jeep!

Many late model cars/trucks use the gray silicone gasket maker. I put a lock-rite in a late 98 Dodge truck, it took longer to clean the silicone off the cover and housing than it did to put in the locker.
