I used a hood and fenders from a '73 CJ5 on my '67. The hood has a support rod, but I have no idea where the loose end goes to prop up the hood. I'm using my original grill so I'm guessing that maybe the '73 grill has the provision for the rod. If someone could post up a pic of where it goes on an original Intermediate I'd appreciate it.

Best I could do at the moment, an old photo in my photobucket account.

There's a loop sticking out from where the grille support rod is attached. You could probably make something out of a piece of angle iron.

Is that hole the rod goes through round or oblong?

Haha, that's funny. I had been looking at that thing wondering what it was for. I guess it still doesn't matter as I don't have the hood prop rod... Posi, do you need one?R)

Nope, I had the rod but nowhere to put it. My wife had a suggestion, but that wouldn't have held the hood up! Ha Ha

That anchor bracket for the prop rod looks exactly like the same part on an early CJ.

I don't know what year they started using the holdup rod. '69 or '70 if I had to guess.

Here's what I ended up making. It may be a tad shorter that the original. I was just guessing as I had no real measurements. I had a piece of 1" x 2" rectangle tubing that I sliced about 3" of the top off. That gave me the rounded edges. I ground a notch where I wanted to make the bend, bent it to where I liked it, then welded the notch and ground it off.

I'm still not sure why people use a prop rod myself.;)

    nickmil In mothballs.

Keeps the wind from blowing the hood down on your head when the Jeep is pointed down hill. Plus you don't have to drill extra holes in your hood for TJ bumpers;)

Having said that, I have TJ bumpers for the '59, but I've found the hood prop rod very handy on the Daughter's '70...:)
