CJ-5 headlight trim rings

I know '72 and newer CJ's had the "pointed" style of headlight trim rings but did any of the Early's come stock with them? My Daughter's '70 had them but not sure if it was stock or something the po did. I had someone ask me about this and couldn't answer...

Yeah, it changed somewhere in the mid-60s IIRC.

I recall having the discussion once upon a time, heck, it might have been so long ago it was on Forumco.

So would these on my '70 be the earlier style?

That's what my '67 and my '71 have, as well as my Brother's '63

I was wrong then. I thought it changed sometime in the '60s for some reason.

I thought they were the same from 55-71, but I've been wrong a time or three myself..:)

The ones Nick has for sale are '72-up...I think.

With the day I've been having, you're likely correct.

Will the intermediate ones fit on early CJs properly?

Yes, the only difference is the style.

Yeah, the later ones do fit fine. They just look a little different. Zoomer, when I take pics tomorrow I can take a pic of the two styles sitting next together so you can see the difference.

I bought a late style for mine when i first started my build. I returned it and ordered one that the guy swore only fit a CJ3b. It was the correct one. Its the same ring for the 2a, 3a, 3b and early 5

They are very similar but at least one of the flatty trim rings is actually flatter than the '5 trim rings. I've got a pair of those as well. I'll take a pic of those with the others today so the differences can be seen. Just haven't had a chance to do it yet.

Here's a pic showing the 3 styles. One on the far right is the Flatty version, the center one is the Early CJ style, and the one on the left is the later CJ version.

Huh, I didn't know that. cool. Can you get repo correct flatty ones?

They are available from many sources. I'd try Walck's, Kaiser-Willys, the usual suspects.

I'm not sure what models of flatty used the flatter rings. All or just some, I'm not sure. Maybe Jpflat2a could answer that. I know 3b's shared quite a few parts with early 5's but not sure if they used the same rings or not.

Can you take a photo of the back of the rings that would fit a 75? I need to figure out how to fabricate the hook mechanism on the top.

    Thanks,

    Gasseous

I sold the later model rings but the hook mechanism is exactly the same as the Early CJ's which is one reason they interchange. I can probably get a pic Sunday.
