Is the front bearing (closest to clutch) on a T-90 removable from the front ?
I am going to try the sealed bearing trick and didn't know if I have to tear down the whole tranny.

I should let someone else answer this ... but to get the discussion going...

Yes, it will come out the front. There are needle bearings in the pocket of the input gear that you may lose into the case. Then, if you can't retrieve them, you'll have to take the gears out.

I don't think it's such a big deal if you have the transmission on the bench. If I had it out of the car, I'd at least put in new blocking rings (synchro rings) as well as the front bearing.

I rebuilt the tranny last year. I am just tired of the oil leak. Are you talking about those little bearings that fall into the case if you move the shaft back. If so I think you can get them out of the case by pulling the shift tower and using a magnet.

    Yes.

COuld be - haven't tried it. I only have experience with T-14s and T-15s. But all the Borg-Warner 3-speeds are put together the same way.

What I did was take off the top cover and wire the main shaft to a couple of bolts reinserted after removing the shift tower. Then you can remove the bearing without the needle bearings falling out.

I can be done - depending on how well you stake the shaft like haighfam said and how tight the front bearing is in the front. Make sure to remove the proper snap ring.

If you leave the transfer case bolted on do you still need to wire the shaft so it won't move???

Yes - the front and rear can come apart. The shaft is spit there with needle bearings inside.

In 2007 I replaced my T90 front bearing with sealed MRC from Purvis Bearing svc. in Dallas, Tx. The number on the receipt is: MRC BRG 208SZZG 031217

I have a SKW bearing to put in. Did the sealed bearing fix the oil leak ???
