i just did this with a 360 today as a matter of fact. i pulled all the plugs and filled the cylinders with motor oil and let it sit for a day. turned over like a champ good luck

  2. penetrating oil , nockerloose in the cylinders and valves they look just as bad then next day a piece of hard wood and a big hammer may take a couple f days f soakin

I have done the air pressure trick as well with some penetrating oil, it will work but if you have a cylinder really stuck you are just farting in the wind. got 3 cylinders passing air by the rings in just a few minutes, left air on #4 for two days and it didnt even leak down:shock: hammer & block of wood got #4. never thought about hyd pressure though, a man might ben a rod with that kind of PSI  but it wouldnt be stuck anymore:rofl:

Keeping an eye on this thread......I may need it.

I have the head bolts/etc out, and the head will not "gently lift off" per the FSM. :) I am not sure how much "persuasion" to give the head to get it to break loose. I have gently (about 5 on a BFH-force scale of 1-10) tried to drive a screwdriver, used a wooden block against "protrusions" such as the t-stat housing. I can get the PB to leak out around the gasket, which shows some progress.

Any trick to get the stuck head off, so I can proceed to unstick the pistons?

This morning I took out the plugs a get a generous shot of PB to start the piston soaking process.

The same air pressure trick will lift a head------put a couple of head bolts back in, but do not tighten the up, leave a turn or so free play----this will keep the head from attaining orbit when it breaks loose.

me thinks he has not removed the head bolt under the carb;)

The under carb bolt, is out. along with EVERYTHING else (carb., rocker arm, fuel pump, oil line, dist., etc). I am working with a stripper down motor. FWIW

  8. You need a bigger hammer.

so today i put a block of wood on top of the pistons (one at a time) and hit it with a sledge...i broke the wood............................................................................................................................
then i said screw it and put a huge thick socket on top of the pistons..hit with a sledge again and nothing......

:iagree: if you got everything loose, and it sounds like you do

Might be time to pull the whole thing and toss it.

  12. you may have to pull the engine and remove th crank shaft to get the pistons out, if its that bad it may not be cost efective to try and repair it.

I ran into a problem like this, thinking the pistons were hung up in a motor cycle engine. Started tearing the engine down and did everything you guys have mentioned to get it to move. Finally decided to bust the pistons thinking I could buy a set. Turned out they were not frozen, the crank and rods were. After I got the pistons demolished one rod would rotate and the other wouldn't. Took the rod loose but couldn't get the crank to rotate to take the other rod free. So your pistons may not be frozen, it may be deeper.

update....since family was down for the holiday...had my 18 year old brother in law help me..he hit one piston with a sledge while i did the same on another....and after a few hits,..it turns..still cant turn it by the crank nut, but by hitting the top of the piston..but the valves arent moving.........
