Does someone have the length of the axle shafts for a Dana 25? Also will the axle shafts for a Dana 27 fit in a 25. Seems like somewhere I heard that there were multiple Dana 27 axle shaft lengths (Commando or pickup maybe?).

    Thanks,
    Stephen

The D25 had a couple different types of axle shafts, Bendix and Rzeppa. Not sure if those had diffo measurements, but you can easily swap in D27 Spicer u-joint shafts from a CJ-5 in place of these other ones.

That is what I plan/hope to do. I've been keeping an eye out for some for sale. I found a pair for sale but now I want to make sure that I'm getting the right lengths. I thought I remembered someone warning me about some commando axle shafts for a D27 that are slightly longer than standard CJ.

I measured my spares. CJ shafts with spicer joints, 21.5" and 34.5" end to end.

    Stephen you are correct.
D27 shafts from Commandos will be about (approx) 1/4" longer on the inner axle shaft only.
No explanation given as to why. Jeep people scratch their heads (me included)
I had the opportunity to compare CJ and Commando shafts side by side.
Different part numbers in the parts book too.
length seems to be the only issue
    FYI

Yep 1/4" longer ask me how I Know. I bought a pair of shafts off ebay for spares, I was still running my bendix type. After trashing the Lt inner, I swapped in the spare only to find out the spindle would not bolt up. So I sold them and bought a set from ebay that measured correctly. You might want to pull yours to have a measurement to work with.

I got my spares from Jpflat2a, so my measurements should be good numbers.

I have 2 more sets of CJ axles
I will measure them for good measure !
sold the Commando set; that's how I found out about the difference

    I agree with Glenn
both sets of CJ axles I have measure the same as his do
if you do end up with Commando axles, I suppose you could cut off the extra on the end
