Getting started on wiring and wondering what the floor mounted starter switch looks like. I picked one up for cj-2a and figured I would just make it work but got me wondering how the original looked.

ya thats what i got, but the mounting hole looks different like two bolt holes on the bottom and one on top.

Could just be the the PO drilled different holes for something, just thought i would be sure.
Would be nice if someone could post a picture of the panel it bolts onto.

here is a picture, the hole is covered in the play-doh lookin stuff up in the corner. there is a large hole that the switch fits in and three holes two in the bottom and one up top.

That's where it goes push with your toe and pump the throttle (if you need to) with your heel. Old Skool all the way! Just disregard the third hole for the mounting. Check to make sure it won't hit the bellhousing before you snug it down, and connect the cables to it before you fasten it in. Just leave the battery feed off the batt, or sparks tend to fly

See that's how it should be two little 1\4 holes but instead i got three 1/2 inch holes. just wondering if those where important or if they should go bye bye. I will take a picture when i get home.

That's actually an early M38A1 tub you have, isn't it?

The military floor starter is a whole different beast than the civvy version, it's actually a spring loaded plunger switch mounted directly to the starter and linked up to a lever controlled starter gear.

The civvy version is a floor mounted switch with a jumper cable to the starter power input and an impulse driven bendix.

I think the early, ca 1947, CJ's had the floor mounted button that hooked mechanically to the starter. That's what my research shows. The ignition switch and coil were a single unit too.
