Have a local peerson selling a 71 CJ 5 body that I have not seen. I think this will fit on my 61 but want to make sure.
Also he said it has a solid rear, no tailgate, that seems odd to me but I'm new at this.
$250 for the body and a soft top, all he said is the floors are bad.
What do you think about this solid tail gate stuff??

Solid rear makes it great for mounting your spare.

The only solid back from 1971 was with the Renegade II - http://www.earlycj5.com/history/the-462-renegade-i-and-ii-cj-5s/

Or - someone replaced the tailgate with a solid back panel. Would not be difficult to replace the tailgate with a solid back panel, since these panels were available from Jeep in the day, and can be sourced from Classic Enterprises today.

A '71 body should have a rear fuel filler neck. Some other minor differences, but it'll fit on your '61 with no problem.

"Needs floors" could be anything from a few little holes to a Flintstones car... ie no floors at all. The parts are available, but could need a lot of work. IMO $250 could be a fair price, but condition will be important.

Thanks for the info. It will help me with the identification. I will look at it later today and see if I want to get it or not.

    M38A1 production went until '71.
Canadian versions went until the 80's.

If its military it will have a big round recessed area on the passenger side below the cowl where thee slave plug was installed.

    8) I never could keep track of how long they were made.

I thought they were phased out with the intro of the MUTT, earlier than '71.
