Tire input request.

I am looking at a set of tires for my rig, 31x10.50x15.

Going to be for a stock height Jeep, on and off road use, nothing too extreme----- like big rocks etc. Old dirt roads/trails fire roads ----stuff like that.

I am a big fan of Les Schwab tire stores, and am looking at a couple of their offerings.

"Open Country" and "Bighorn" are the two examples I believe are the closest to my needs.

Anybody out there use these tires, good and bad points???

Bighorns are rate highly good tire.

 

Most of the tires they sell are usually made by either Cooper Tire or General Tire. One way to tell it its a "made by Cooper" is to look for a little white tag somewhere inside the tire. That tag is the last name of the person who assembled the tire at the Cooper Tire factory. Part of the "take pride in your work" thing. As for quality of products, I personally like Cooper made tires. They usually decent in roundness and wear pretty good. As for Generals, they were hit and miss. All this is just my opinion. I havent been in the tire business in 10 years so things could have changed.
Oh, one other thing, make sure you get the "out the door" price. Alot of the big tire retailers like to nickle and dime you to death. Make sure your price includes mounting, balancing, valve stems, tire casing removal fee, and also the optional road hazard if you wanted it.

 

Even thought you like Les Scwabb, I would advise you look for another tire retailer. Most of their tires are junk. This is just what I have heard from various people and friends. Whenever I see a tire that I like, I ask the person if their around what their opinion on them. Im always into trying to find a better tire for a decent price. Anyways the les brand tires I am hearing that they are rather loud and wear out fast, besides the fact that they cost alot too. They are one of the nickel and dime ya to death stores.
My latest tire was a Bridgestone Dueler. I wish they hadnt changed there tire or I would get the same.
What I do now is buy the tire online and have a small shop to the balancing. Then I install myself. Look at tirerack.com
