I was once told that a lock is to keep a honest man honest. pull the rotor and be done with it, or stick a match stick between the points to keep them from closing. another easy trick that a thief would look right over swap out the coil wire with a plug wire. one cylinder will be trying to hit every time the points cycle, and thats bound to get sombodys attetion:rofl:

A master disconnect on the battery negative cable (hidden) would stop any attempt to hot wire. It would take the thief some time to figure out why no sparkie..

That's funny, as soon as I saw your post I decided to write back and tell folks that I've also made it a point to park next to something much nicer than my Jeep.

I live in Riverside Ca and we are in an area that is stolen car Mecca. A classic jeep really has no value to the average below the border crowd as they want newer more dependable cars but the cool factor of them, and how easy it is to hot wire one makes them a huge hit for the Joy Ride crowd.
I use a system that interrupts the ground wire from the battery on both my CJs. it mounts on the firewall and you have a key you use inside the cab to connect the ground when wanting to use the truck. It actually works really well.
Funny story, I had pulled the Tcase of my 65 tux I used to own to have it rebuilt and pushed the Jeep from my work area in to the driveway. That night some joy riders jumped in and started it up. I heard them and ran outside to see them running down the street to a parked SUV and they took off. I just wonder what the look was on their faces when they fired up the unit and put it in gear and all it did was whirl.

I was (not seriously) thinking of running a couple of small wires around the backside of the steering wheel. Then have a fence charger mounted somewhere. Just plug the charger into the steering wheel wires when you park the Jeep out in public.

I'd say one is likely to forget once, twice tops. OTOH if this were to be a daily driver; forgetting could eliminate your need for a cup of coffee to wake you up in the morning

:hurrican::hurrican:An old prank we used in the olden days was to install a wire between any spark plug wire and a bared wire under the drivers seat cover...
When the thief starts the jeep up he completes the circuit and the running engine shocks him every time he touches metal....

It's hilarious to watch what the driver does trying to shut off the engine or get out of the vehicle. R)R)R)
