    OK, I have 4.27s in now, but I have a 27 & a 44 with 5.38s.
the engine is a :hurrican: (134).
The front axle thats in it is a 27a the other is a 27.
It will be mainly a trail Jeep so street driving will be very little.
It will have 33s on it.
    Which would y'all run? :?
I'm leaning toward the 5.38s just for the pure grunt of lower gears but dont want to regret it, ie less wheel spin in the mud  .

It's not that you'll spin less in the mud, your just gonna have to shift sooner. ;)

Go fer the '38s cause there low. It will help the whining hurricane climb a lot better- ask me how I know.

Heh...I have 5.38's and wanna go back to 4.27s....but totally different picture -- V6 power, more street use, granny low 1st gear anyway, and the 4.27's are in rebuilt axles with PowrLoks...

For a :hurrican: trail rig the 5.38's are definitely a better way to go...

    Thanks guys. :)
    Thats the push I needed.
Now to start saving for lockers front and rear.

Consider using a Powerlock limited slip in the front instead of a locker. You get great traction, especially with the rear locked up and you can still steer the damn thing. I wouldn't have a locked front if someone gave it to me. Just my .02 I also run 5.38's

On my 66 (which ultimately will be the Jeep I keep) I'm going with 5.38's. D30 front and D44 rear, with a V6. I have an OD to make the street a little more comfy.

Locker in front and steering? Thats why they made twinsticks ;)

5.38 in Speedbuggy. I will need to add OD to it. She winds up pretty good at 55mph, but I like the low gearing
