my buddy with an 225 oddfire just got this running ,,sprinkled with S10 efi, just got a tbi, stock computer , harness re-wire, map, water ,oxygen sensor, inline fuel pump , a MSD univeral crank trigger that required much machining , and machined a carb to tbi adapter , just kind of threw it all on . turned the key and wah-la....... efi

seems to run rich and has a off idle stumble, right now but it could also be other issues adding to things , timing or to much fuel ,not cleaning injectors etc.......??

over all , I was pretty impressed it runs so good with all the talk of needing special computers , I think it just needs smaller than stock injectors and that would help things alot . the MSD trigger was the most expensive part, he's into it all now for about $600. pretty close just needs to clean it up alittle and align the pulleys since the trigger offset things abit. just thought I would share, don't think he would mind.

Yeah, cleaning those injectors would help.:v6:

The only reason a so called special computer was needed was for the rpm count and tuning. Megasquirt doesn't care what motor you put it on, odd or even fire, multiple injectors, batched fired or timed fired, 1-12 cylinders single or multiple injectors per cylinder. It is all accounted for and you don't need a crank trigger. He solved this problem by tricking the computer into thinking its firing evenly with the trigger. Changing perameters will be difficult with this setup. Megasquirt is changeable with a laptop, PC or palm pilot.
He did a very good job on the cheap but it will always have certain problems or quirks.
My thing with megasquirt is that it is infinitely tuneable and can be used on a lawnmower or airplane doesn't matter, none of the others can be.

    Indeed.

You shouldn't need a fancy MDS trigger (MDS trigger? Google shows nothing) - you need a notched wheel and a CPS (crank position sensor). DIY Auto Tune sells notched wheels, though they would be easy to make for anyone with access to a shop.

As Mike writes, the Megasquirt can accept the unevenly timed ignition signal; I expect it time-averages the spark signal to generate a RPM value.

wow tim that site is great . click /save. those wheels are all going for less than $40 bucks that fancy alum. trigger with pickup was almost $300.

    MSD instead of MDS...

He would be able to get it to run much better all he needs to do is send the computer to Howell and they can put in a fuel map that has been established for the 231 EF.

    But that's a 225, odd fire...

The firing mechanism is now evenfire with the crank trigger so the computer doesn't know the difference. The map for the 3.8 is close enough for the 3.7 and the computer has enough adjustability in it that it works. The 4.3 map is too far off for the 3.7(225) to run right. Just my 2cents.

From the bit I've researched on the Megasquirt, I think it'd be easily way cheaper than the holley projection and infinitely more tunable. Of course it will require fabrication and some time to get all the pieces so perhaps for the average person looking just to bolt on and go the holley may be better for some, but the holley pro-jection has been around for years and never exactly took the market by storm and isn't as tunable as the megasquirt.

Megasquirt is phenominal. I've been running it on my 1963 VW bug for about three years now and can't get enough of it. If I end up rebuilding my F-134 i'll end up injecting it and throwing a small turbo on it (I'd like to take it to 100-110hp is all). If I end up swapping over to a 225, i'd love to inject that if I could find a throttle body that would bolt on top of it.

There's just about nothing you can't do with Megasquirt. I started out running fuel only and running a distributor. Then I modded it and switched over to crank fire running a Ford Escort coil pack. Now i'm in the middle of modding it again to run coil-on-plug ignition. If I end up getting this to work, my Jeep will be going in the same direction for sure! The level of tuneability is unreal.

Cool thanks for the confirmation. I've been on they're site when I was looking at it to FI motorcycles. I guess they have the microsquirt for that (same thing just smaller I hear). Once finances and health improves I'll get a CJ and I think the megasquirt will get the nod for the computer to run things. People get freaked out about FI but outside of the wiring its just not that complex, just different and the tuneability means never having to put up with rough running engines again. For turbo and supercharger applications there is just no question FI is the only way to go to keep the engine happy and in one piece.

    Regards,

follow up : this set up is still running fine ,,, I thought with the amount of fuel going in it would wash all the oil off the pistons but so far so good
