I am in the middle of rebuilding a T-84. It is an early 1942 ford gpw model with the fill/drain on the right side. I have found that it needs 2nd and 3rd gear, the blocking rings, and the sliding gear that goes over the synchronizer assembly. I have laying around, a T-84 of unknown origin, probably out of a 2 wheel drive as the rear of the case is different. The upper gears are in great shape, and I would like to use them to save some $'s. However, this unit has no blocking rings, they are sort of built into the synchronizer assembly. Will those upper gears work in the Ford gpw T-84? Is the taper the same?.....If not, is that entire synchronizer assembly a dependable unit that I could swap in as a whole?

You may need to talk to Herm (hermtheoverdriveguy.com) as he can probably point you in the right direction.

Early t84s are different. Seems like the taper that the blocking ring slides on is not as steep on the early ones. the later transmission has much more in common with the 2wd t96.

I did post it on the G503 board. I spend a lot more time on that board than here. But no one really knows this animal. It is a t-84c-1a. I am thinking that if the tapers are different, I could just swap in everything from 3rd gear to the synchros, to 2nd gear. But I really want to know how well these units shifted before I swap in this style of parts.
