I have one wind sheild wiper that is electric on driver side the passenger side is hand operated. That is fine if I can get the driver side working better. What is a good wiper and motor? Can I get any any input as to what works? Mine is slower that molasses.

Best solution is to swap to a later w/s with the taller glass, bottom mount wipers, and real wiper motor/linkages.

Don't: Buy the crap motor advertised by all the Jeep replacement parts places. It's a piece of junk.

I'd look in the boat or semi market for a surface-mount motor - and make sure to pay $80 + to ensure quality.

Before spending any money, take what you have, disassemble it, clean carefully, and reassemble using Lubriplate (white lithium grease) in the gears. I had a similar problem years ago when my wiper motor stopped working. I did this and ran it for years with good results before I changed out the windshield to bottom mount wipers. Might just be gummed up. Worth a shot and doesn't cost anything. Nickmil

I used this style on Tonk, two sets actually. The problem with these things is the design is pretty much "public domain", that means quality from one manufacturer to another can vary wildly. One set I had wasn't too bad, seals on the shafts, self parking etc. but they didn't last forever. The replacement set were just plain out & out junk.

I'd go with with Boyink's suggestions, the ones he's talking about are far better quality.

I don't know if you can still buy one, the the American Bosch units were very good. The originals are still in my 54 FWD.

Not sure why Howard is wary of this motor. The import motors from JC Whitney and others look like this, but I'd guess that if you pay over $100 to get a motor meant for marine service, the quality would be ok.

Note that, for CJ-5s and CJ-6s, you should be able to find a complete later-style windshield with bottom mounted wipers for the price of a pair of those motors. The motor in the later windshield is very similar to the second motor shown above.

I'll tell you why Howard and I are wary of these type of wiper motors, they have plastic internal gears that will strip out at the worst possible time, like coming over the Sierra summit of Hwy 4 during a snowstorm. DAMHIK

Pay a little more for the American Bosch if you can find them, they are worth it.

As I said Tim there's many different manufacturer's making these things & the quality is all over the map. In my experience (admittedly limited to two sets) even the better quality ones aren't something that is going to last. I may be off base on my assessment, but why take the chance? Nor do I see the list price as being an absolute indicator of quality, look how much they charge just for the wiper arms alone  My recommendation stands as being against style "A" & for style "B", if nothing else the "B" offers the ability to adjust the sweep angle.
