Wiper Motor Wiring-American Bosch

    After searching the internet, I found out that I have the American Bosch WWF wiper motor that is upper mounted. First off, are these motors original for a '67? I bought a used windshield frame and I had to drill two extra mounting holes and make 2 holes larger in order to mount the wiper motors. These motors look to me like they were retrofitted by the PO.

    How do I wire these motors to a switch? The diagram shows what is wired now and the switch that i took from a winnebago. Which of the switch wires connect to the motor wires?

    I don't think there were any top-mounted electric motors used in CJs - only vacuum motors. Replacement electric motors are a common upgrade though.

    I expect these are single speed motors. I think this because you need two wires plus ground for the operation of a single-speed motor with park. You need the motor wire and ground, plus you need a wire that is hot all the time to operate the park function. This is so the motor can continue to run when you shut off the switch, until it reaches the park position. Then a switch inside the motor cuts off power to the motor, and the wipers are parked.

    Two speed wiper motors have three wires - 2 speeds and park, plus ground.

    I suggest you open up one of the motors and look at where the brown and pink wires go. Alternately, you could test each wire by connecting one at a time to +12V while grounding the motor. The motor wire will run the motor constantly regardless of position. The park wire will run until the motor reaches the park position, and stop.

    If you have a 1-speed motor, you don't need a 3-position switch. The thing to do with the switch is to map it with your multimeter. Figure out which terminals are connected at which positions, and you'll know all the information that's contained in the switch.

    thanks

    i hooked up 12v to all the wires (except ground) and one wire turns on one motor. the other wire makes the other motor just make a click sound. the third, which i'm guessing is the park, doesn't do anything. i'll open them up. this is my first time opening up a wiper motor...what parts should i pay close attention to when inspecting and cleaning?

    do your motors have 3 terminals ?
    they could be the same 2 speed units I have on my flatty.
    I couldn't make them park, but they do have lo/hi speeds.
    I'm using a factory rotary switch; I think it's 4 terminal.
    The factory parts manual is no help on this issue; seems like the parts books have been wrong for years.
    They do list either a 4 or 5 teminal rotary switch though.

    I see the marking WWF12C3(4?)-920 on yours. Mine looks like yours except Mine only has 2 terminals and a ground wire attached to one of the case screws.

    According to some drawing I saw online the coding is:

    WWF = Manufacturer (a Bosch Product)
    12 = 12 volts
    C = Edition
    34 = ??? (the drawing doesn't show this number combo)
    9 = 120 degrees
    20 = 2" stud length

    Regarding the code number "34", the drawing only shows the options of:

    1 = 1 speed, painted touch and go park
    15 = 1 speed, painted, auto, park (cw)
    16 = 1 speed, painted, auto, park (ccw)
    17 = 2 speed, painted, auto, park (cw)
    18 = 2 speed, painted, auto, park (ccw)
    19 = painted, touch and go park, integral switch

    not sure what the (cw) (ccw) means and why 34 or 33 (what I have) doesn't show up on the code reference.

    I have another diagram showing:
    Terminal B (red) = park
    Terminal C (yellow) = low
    Terminal A (brown) = high

    then it says "for park, energize "B" only"

    I'm guessing the terminal colors being referred to is inside the unit. Honestly, I don't know what to make of all this info...not fully wrapping my head around it yet. Hopefully, theres something up there to figure out why yours do not park.

    I opened the motor to take a peek inside and I think I now get how the park works. I made a diagram:

    The diagram on the top is showing what happens when you turn the switch to "off" while the wiper blades are not in the park position. When you turn the switch to "off", one of the terminals on the switch should still be conducting 12v: That is the park terminal. 12v goes through the red wire and to a "bridge" (the green dot in the diagram). The bridge conducts the 12v from the park terminal (red) to the low terminal (yellow) and continues to power the motor. The bottom diagram is showing that eventually, as the motor continues to turn and wiper blades swing, the bridge between the red terminal and the yellow terminal becomes disconnected...12v is no longer being conducted to the motor and the wiper blade stops at the park position.

    I've noticed on mine that the "bridge" is gummed up. Try cleaning the bridge and maybe that will solve your non-parking problem...I'm in the process of cleaning mine. One of my motors doesn't turn on at all...

    hadn't seen that info before
    these wiper motors were brand new
    I just shut the switch off when they are in the position I want
    having a high speed is nice

    eh...they move. not synchronized though and I have the problem with not parking...

    Mine does this also. I gave up trying to fix it. I just disconnect the passenger side.
