hey guys im sure this has been discussed several times but after searching threads i really couldnt find much on the subject.

so my question is does anybody have any recomendations? ive got a 74 cj with the 304 and i want to convert to fuel injection. howell seems like they have a good product but i was just wanting some opinions.

the engine is stock aside from an edelbrock 4 barrel intake.

    thanks in advance.

how much work do you want to do on it? Install it and forget it? Computer tunable? build it yourself?

There are several options but the answer depends on how much you want to do.

honestly i have no problem doing all of the wiring and installing of sensors and what little fuel line will need to be done. hell i went to the junkyard and pulled the fuel injection off of a tbi 4.3 and installed it on my 3.8.

i have no need to be able to tune and tweek, this is basically a stock engine.

i guess what i am looking for is something that always starts, that i can go to any parts store for a sensor, and will work with my amc 304!

deep down i feel like going to the junkyard didnt really save me that much because i still had to come home and beat my head against the wall until i figured it all out. a kit seems like it would be nice this time.

    hope this helps

Just installed Howell kit on my 304. Love it. Easy install; great product; great service.

The Howell is a good unit. and complete unlike other brands. JP Mag did a Howell install on a J series truck. the only time I have heard of issues with the Howell or really any other kit is when someone has engine issues already. in some cases were people have had valve or other issues on internals of the engine the fuel injection system can amplify the problem and cause some iritating greaf. A carb system will not necessarily let you know of these issues because it has no monitering system on the exhaust and intake.
I will go Howell myself one day but really like a carb in the mountains.

This is what I plan to do with my 304 eventually.

The main advantage of the Ford CFI throttle body is that it bolts on the the stock 304 manifold. I don't see any great advantage to a 4V manifold when combined with fuel injection - even the big block Chevys ran a 2V throttle body. With EFI, mixture control is no longer dependent on vacuum, so there's no need to split the primaries from the secondaries as in a 4V carburetor.

That looks like a pretty cool set-up. I gotta figure that Ford had a similar set-up on the 351 's that could be used on 360 AMC's.
