Another success story.

 

So, since it seems that i am keeping the jeep, i decided to do a little "lunch" project. There were some big ugly holes in the dash from the PO due to aftermarket gauges... I decided to make a plate to put over...1 plate cut, drilled. Grabbed a paint marker, wrote 4x4 on it, then sprayed it with some primer, let it dry a little and then wiped it. Mounted to dash...:JEEP:

I like it. It fits in with the scheme of the dash.

BTW, I am sort of glad your keeping your Jeep. I hope all is well.

 

@lawrenceu - yep, all is well, just nobody was that interested in the jeep, and after all the work that i did to it, i wasnt going to let it go for 1500$, the family vacation is important, but not so important to let my hard work go for nothing, so I'll keep it - we can easily make do, just not gonna make one of the ~600 mile departures we were planning... - as they say: S'all good!

So, after making that little plate to cover the holes in the dash, (which looks horrible, the 4x4 didnt turn out good - see pic below) i decided that i needed a glovebox...taking the idea from another on the forum, i used a .50cal ammo can that i had lying around...then, had to take apart the latch and clean all the gunk out of it to get it to work properly...turned out good - doesnt move or rattle, and is big enough for my early chilton's to fit! one note - the .50 can doesnt fit perfect - other than cutting the lid off, i had to "adjust" the upper passenger corner because of the cowl joint - that was easy though - made 2 parrell relief cuts across the corner and used a bfh to "invert" that little section of corner - approx 1" wide x 1" deep

After that, i decided to unbolt the tailgate (which i had bolted shut) and put the chains back on - not really as loud as i thought it would be...


Then, i pulled the tow/bar brackets off (i dont have a tow bar, and they really hurt when you catch one in the knee), straightened out some dent's and gave it a fresh coat of paint - then put the license plate where it's supposed to go...sorry no pics of that. Thats all for tonite folks!

 

As a WW2 reenactor a small tear runs down my cheak from seeing a WW2 ammo can cut apart. However there are so many around that they are a dime a dozen and I think its a fantastic way to make a glove box!!!!! Seriously great work!

 

I've really liked what you've posted so far. I have just taken possesion of my grandmothers 69 CJ5 with the 225 V6. I'm thinking of doing a similar resto. Keep up he nice work.

 

Its been a couple weeks since I really worked on the Jeep, just have been driving it. Last night i decided to change the color of my stripe, and then today at lunch time i decided to pull the rollbar....so, here she is



I bought some Camo seat covers a couple weeks back and installed them, that makes the front seats look alot better

I did install the rear seat that i bought from BKD (Thanks Jim!)


Next up i am going to purchase a new cowl seal, and repaint the dash to match the new stripe color (italian olive!) Looking good!

I have those exact same wheels, are those factory original?
