I fought with mine for years. The solution for me was a poly tank from MTS, and one of their gas caps. It seals perfectly now.

well I have been working at this for a while now,,,the cap seals the opening , trouble is you need a vented cap .and thats where it's coming from. I am now running a cap from napa and I have welded up the main vent hole and pluged two of the side vents in the cap .2 are left...... I have run the jeep at speed and not starved it out yet.thinking of going for another hole. gas is so expensive now and the fear of fire (draging body across a gas soaked rock ,not good.) bought a roll over ball vent like the ones they use on buggys, but the trouble with those is it would have to roll and land upside down to block it off , land sideways and fuel would soak you......... please keep me posted on this one .Pat,,,,,, I don't see how the mts tank and cap will keep it in. is that cap vented?can you get me a pic

If you bought the roll over valve with pipe thread on the outlet, then run a hose from it into the air cleaner so that the fumes will be pulled into the carb. On a steep side hill the fuel will run up the long hose, but when you get back to level it will run back into the tank.

Well, it was vented. and for a while, it didn't leak fuel thru the vent. When it started, I JB'd the vent shut. I put an elbow high in the filler neck, and ran a 1/4" fuel line from there and loops up by the base of the roll bar, and comes back out thru a hole in the filler well above the cap, for a vent. Works very well.
No pics tonight, but I'll try to remember to get some for you tomoroow if you want.
