So I've been commuting in to school with a friend that staying with me for a short time. So the Jeep was only out for an hour last weekend to pull around some fallen trees. I did, however drive to school yesterday and it seemed to be shifting fine until I decided to go home - 12 hours later.
When I put it into reverse it was tougher than normal and once I engaged the clutch to shift it into first it just stopped moving. It wouldn't roll backwards under its own weight. Then I proceded to have hard time shifting the entire way home.
So what's going on? Fluid levels are topped off. And the clutch only has 200 hours on it.

Fortunately I have a newly rebuilt tranny and Tcase coming from Herm.

I'd guess you have a bearing(s) on the way out.

I had a similar experence with my 72 about 2 weeks ago. I turned out to be a loose bracket in the clutch linkage. I thought at the time the tranny was going but repaired the broken bolt and shifts great.

    mb82 I feel great!

my ex just called me a few weeks ago with this exact problem in her 97 tj it only happens when the tranny temp is cold. turns out it was her clutch going bad on her( 112,000 on stock clutch not bad at all). or at least the clutch change fixed it at the time. come to think of it she called me the other day but i did not answer wonder if something else went wrong.

marc this does not sound like the same fix you need but it is just my expirence.

make sure the tcase shifters are not accidentally in nuetral or maybe stuck mid shift

Sounds more like a clutch problem than a tranny problem. Check your adjustment.
