This is my 1969 CJ5 Dauntless V6. I picked her up about 3 years ago after lamenting for about 20 years about having got rid of my 1st Jeep, actually my 1st vehicle, a 1966. So far I have done very little work to her, but I do have plans over then next 2 years or so. The goal is to take it as back to as close to original as feasable, while still keeping it as a usable vehicle. I just picked up a set of original 15 inch steel wheels. The Super Swampers and wheels that are on there have to go. The body that is on there has to either have a major amount of work, or has to be replaced all together. I am still deciding which original paint color to take it back to. Currently she is black, but was red at some point. I live near Pittsburgh and had to drive out to Lancaster to trailer her back. That was an adventure. I managed to blow the head gasket on my truck on the way back, and ended up spending a night in some motel, but it was worth it. My fiance and I fossil hunt as a hobby, and the Jeep has been a great deal of fun, as well as being invaluable in getting us to so difficult to reach spots no other vehivle could have gotten us into. Eventually I will end up starting the requisite build thread when money allows. Until then I'm sure I will be asking a lot of questions. I have never attempted to restore anything before, so this will be a learn as you go dituation.

This was taken last year, but not much has changed since then.

That looks like a great candidate for a resto. Highly recommend at least a factory roll bar for it. Welcome to the Forum.

That will be a fun resto! If you're going original, I highly recommend an original color, if not the orginal color if possible.
There's just something about a Jeep painted the original color.

That's a very nice Jeep, and I can't wait to see the build on it!

While I'm here, here's my '68 CJ5 V6, about a year ago in Big Bear CA.

Well, in keeping with the "original" look I'd rather keep the rollbar off. There was one on there when I picked it up, but it's now off and sitting in the garage.

I'm all for original, but I've driven mine without the rollbar and it's scary as $%@&, if it rolls, that's it.

To each his own I suppose.

:iagree: I wouldn't ride in a Jeep without a rollbar. Doesn't matter if you run trail or not. A quick maneuver to avoid some other driver on the road and you might find out how easy it really is to roll a Jeep. Besides, they were offered from the factory (for good reason) so it's not like your Jeep isn't original with rollbar on it.

Cj's can be coffins real quick without a roll bar. One of the forum members just this past weekend posted pics of his in a almost-rolled-it story. It is real nerve racking when the view over the hood stops lining up with the horizon and the helpless feeling kicks in.

Having lived through a Jeep roll on I75 in KY going 65 mph, I can attest to that train of thought.

I have to agree with you.

I just think of it as being a 4WD motorcycle.

I know it's not exactly the same, being strapped into the Jeep, but I still prefer to keep a rollbar out of the Early '5.

Some people jump out of airplanes, I drive my early 5 with no rollbar...

Most people don't jump out of airplanes without a parachute.

Just picked this 71 cj5 up about a month ago. I blew the rear end the first day so that is getting rebuilt as we speak.
I have been wiring it up from scratch basically, it came with a painless wiring kit with a modern style fuseblock so I have about 90% of it done.

It came with a bunch of new parts but it needs a few things. I plan on making a build thread soon...here it is

Jealous of your weather. High of 42 here today. Your Jeep looks great. Was that you that re-grooved the Baja Claws?
