Does anyone know what the OEM engine fan on a 1970 V6 Jeep is supposed to look like? I've currently got a solid 4 blade on mine that I swapped that in from another Jeep I had. In talking to a guy who has some parts, he said there were 4, 5 and 7 blade fans available. Does anyone know what was OEM in early 1970?

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

all are correct from the factory.
7 blade was used with HD cooling.

So what all does HD cooling consist of besides the 7 blade fan? Was a radiator shroud part of that package? I have the 22" radiator, but I think that was standard by my build date of October 1969.

The blade is 4" wide. The total width of the fan is 15"......BTW: what does 'HD' mean??

The 17"x22" radiator was standard on the v6 models by 1970 as the front grill was completely changed to house it. My 71 had a 4 blade fan on it. I have a 5 blade flex fan on it now that probably moves more than twice the air the factory 4 blade did. You can literally hear the fan whirring over the headers and duals.

Thanks for the info guys. Any advantages / disadvantages of the 5 blade vs the 7 blade?

Do both of these look corrrect?

I'm not the greatest expert on the V6s, but 7 blades will move more air than 5 blades. 7 blade fan may have come with a thermal clutch. I would guess that HD cooling is a shroud, 7 blade fan and a fan clutch.

Any fixed fan is going to be noisy. If it were mine, I'd run a fan clutch or convert to an electric fan.

    Zombie thread...
Neither of the fans pictured above will work with a fan clutch, they take a larger center hole.
My '70 :v6: came with a 4 blade fan, and tended to run hot on long climbs off road, or hot days in traffic.
A homemade fan shroud made a world of difference, without any extra noise.

The Daughter's '70 had a 4 blade fan also. Swapped it to a 7 blade. The stock units I've seen did not have a fan clutch on a '71 and older CJ. Fans that use a clutch have a larger bolt pattern spread and much larger center hole that won't bolt to the water pump without the clutch assembly.

My late 69-70 had a 4 bladed fan, I recently replaced it with one off of a Buick 350. It cools much better now. Mine didn't have a shroud ever that I can tell.
