1/2 cab qwik fix.

the meyers cab i got recently had some nasty rust damage on the lower portion of the rear panel.

since i am not a welder/fabricator i took the easy way out.
i used a cutting wheel to trim off the jagged edge
and then pop riveted a sheet of heavy gauge flashing over the whole mess.
it didnt get painted because i was doing this in the rain.

 

i put a bead of silicone along the edge before i put it on.

and yes.
what some members call an hour and a half job
takes me a couple of weeks........

 

already got 4 hours into it.
i just spent 3 more hours .
i bet it takes 8 more (if nothing bad happens)

 

are these the ones i count?




as an aside.
this is one of the reasons i get confused as a complete newcomer to mechaniking
names for the same gear (i think)
bull gear
trans output gear
t-case input gear
t-case drive gear

 

i betcha nickle mine leaks too!

(yes there is oil in it)

i used THE RIGHT STUFF gasket goop.
expensive and worth every penny.
i let it cure for 24 hours before i filled it.

 

Nice build! Makes me think one day mine will be drivable. I know what you mean about having something you stick money into just sitting...

I dig the seats also, do they fold up to let you use the toolbox? I need to find some of those!

this is the best advice i can give anybody that doesnt know dookie about cars but wants to rebuild one.
invest in a camera
and take pics of every single thing you do
every step of the way.
trust me.
you WONT remember how stuff goes back on!

 

this dana/spicer rebuild was the one time i didnt take pics.
it cost me 80 bucks to hire a guy to align the shifter forks.
1 pic would have saved me that money.

 

oh by the way.
it runs like a dream!
it's a smooth/tight shifting hunka hunka burnin love.
