    Ok everyone,

I have been thinking about painting my 57 CJ5. I have plenty of time to think about it.

I had a few military trucks in the past and I am thinking about painting my CJ5 with the military olive drab semi gloss. I think it would look great but I don't know if I should do that to my CJ. I don't want to get the military guy's mad about it.

    What are your thoughts?

Just don't call it a military Jeep or a M38A1 and it'll be fine. :D

Yep, it goes both ways....a lot of military Jeep owners are rather particular with their opinions....a civvy Jeep painted OD will probably elicit fewer comments than a "retired" military Jeep that's been bastardcized

Thanks for all of the replies. It will be a while before any paint work gets done. I want to get it ready for the road and drive it for a while before it gets painted.

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

I'm setting a CJ6 fiberglass tub on a CJ8 frame, D44/D60's with a minimum of 39's. And I'm going to paint it like an old military jeep. I might even paint "Military Recovery Unit" on the side and have little black sillouttes of Hummers under that.

So just painting your's OD, I would't worry about it. And I dothink we need picts........

I don't like when cj's are painted to look like millitay Jeeps that much. I love a bright shiny color Jeep myself. That said paint it how ever you darn well please!:) It's your Jeep!

i agree paint whatever you want.i like OD cj's as long as ya dont try to pass it off as a military jeep no one cares. have a guy around here who has a cj2a that believes its a mb because it 's od with military markings.

I love this color , Krylon taupe. 8 cans at $ 5 this side is now trashed from a deep ditch I went threw ,I like the rock-rash look so paint is not important . I live in a military town with convoys rolling out all the time they will let me in their line and hoot and holler, they love it.:flag: [IMG] [IMG]

While on the topic of paint color, I notice that cj5/442 says "8 cans at $5". As far as paint goes, do people prefer a spray gun or a rattle can? I am thinking of changing the color of mine and was thinking of grabbing some rattle cans as I wont be able to afford a professional type paint job any time soon...thoughts on that? (Mods, if this should be split, sorry).

As far as painting it an OD, why not? It is your jeep, you arent trying to pass it off as military, just like everyone has said before, go for it! :D
