Exhaust?????

    i am wanting to upgrade my exhaust on the 69. i want as many hp as i can get. but my wallet is only so deep.
    where am i lossing the most hp? headers? mufflers? etc

    Ya Know, I'm not convinced that headers, or even dual exhaust, with stock manifolds, will make any extra horsepower, on a stock engine. My 71 had duals on it with Turbo mufflers when I got it. I went back to a single exhaust with 2 1/2" pipes and a good freeflow muffler. It runs a lot better.
    I would consider an HEI distributor upgrade. It seems to really help on the bottom end
    Of course, this is a personal opinion, not an expert one.

    i was looking into a new distributor, but i am getting new mufflers for saound so i was looking into getting as much hp as i could. what distributor do you recomend?

    You want a HEI from GM.
    If you search here and on the jeepster board you can find answers to all you ???'s.
    Welcome by the way.

    Like distributer upgrade or dual mufflers ect.

    trick, i just tried the search and got nothing, i hate being the one who posts questions that have already been asked..
    back on topic.... is anyone running a dual muffler (whatever company) that sounds just amazing

    I love the performance I get out of my 1968 Jeepster. It has headman headers, flowmaster 40 series mufflers and the pipes exit out behind the rear wheels. More importantly, it has an Offenhouser intake manifold and a Comp cam that helps it at highway speeds. I kept the stock distributor, but upgraded it with the Petronix Ignitor ignition. It's a nice clean upgrade that works well as an electronic ignition upgrade. I also have a 1970 that has the original style points (in a Prestolite, not Delco cap). When the points and dwell are set, it works great too! My 1968 drives at 65+ mph and I get better than 19mpg on the highway. The biggest limitation it has is the brakes! I think I'd start with an ignition tuneup or replacement, then go for a flowmaster muffler. You won't be disapointed by the sound or power it gives.

    the headman headers? do they fit dauntless 225? and this comp cam you got, what is its advantage? my 69 can do bout 90mph

    Sanderson Headers also make a block hugging style Buick v6 headers that will fit Commandos. I plan on using a set as the 225 v6 drivers side rear dump manifolds are prone to cracking and getting hard to find. I also upgraded the early style 10-inch brakes to the later '72-'73 11-inch drums. I have not driven with them yet, but my former '73 Commando stopped well with them. It is an easy swap and parts are readily available. I will probably stick with the Delco distributor with a Petronix conversion. I have used them on other motors with good results. BG

    hurst, did u gain any hp or tq by adding the new headers? my jeep is rolling on danna 44 with disc brakes off of a wagoneer.both front and rear axles. she stops extremely fast lol

    I have not run the motor yet so I cannot comment on the performance. I am not sure how I am going to route the exhaust,daul if possible, but I cannot see how the pass. side pipe can avoid the transfer case. I installed a mild TA Performance cam in the motor with the stock intake and Rochester--otherwise a stock rebuild with a good three angle valve grind. BTW-TA Performance actually farms out the cam grinding to Schneider Cams in SoCal. I still doing body work. Hopefully it will be on the road soon. b

    my 225 the exhaust goes in passed the transfer case on both sides. where are u getting hung up on?
