ive found a local 90 cherokee with a 4 cylinder, what about swapping the power train to a 46?

There are certainly easier swaps, such as a Buick/Jeep V6 or a Chevy 4.3 V6. Both o these will bolt up to a stock Jeep driveline which is important in a flatfender. There just isn't much room to work with in there!

From your previous post, I recall you need more than the engine ... you need to spell this out when you post a new question.

The 4-cylinder would be good; the AMC 150 is a fine engine, and I expect it would fit the engine compartment pretty well. Fuel injected too. Unusual swap though, so whether you want to attempt it depends on your ability and/or confidence.

If it's an automatic, it will be too long for a flat fender. The transfer case drop is on the wrong side for your flat fender axles. You'll need a different transmission and transfer case.

You need something with a short manual transmission, like the Borg-Warner 3-speeds, and the Dana 18 transfer case. The rear driveshaft is short, and you don't have a lot of leeway in drivetrain length.
