Trailer floors...

Does anyone have experience using the BT3-C floors from DL Bensinger? I had been only considering the Jeeppanels Plus floors, but would like other input. TIA!

I've considered going the diamond plate route but am concerned that the strength afforded by the ribs in the JPP floor would be compromised... Also, I'm going to make the floor/ tub a removable unit like the M-416. Still, since this is not a resto; all options are open at this point...

 

FWIW When I removed the standard ribbed floor in the flatty for a diamond plate floor (~1/8") it was the best thing I ever did as far as for hauling stuff. I have hauled wood and all kinds of crap and not even close to a ding.

The stock ribbed floor in my M416 though as good as it was when I got it (Almost flawless aside a few dents) is already showing a LOT more dents -- big ones. If I ever have to change it I would def consider plate.

 

As for DL Bensinger's or Jeep Panels Plus products, Bensinger's sells the floor panel made by MD Juan in the Phillipines whereas the Jeep Panels Plus panel is fabricated by Jeep Panels Plus. The word on other forums is that there are some fit/authenticity issues with the MD Juan product, and that Jeep Panels Plus makes a better product and gives great customer service. There is a difference in price, i.e., you get what you pay for.

For a restoration, a replacement floor is the only way to go. Otherwise, use whatever works best for you and your budget.

 

Thanks all for the input... I'm still undecided which way would work best for me, as I do want to make the tub/ floor come off as a unit vice being welded to the frame. I do like the 1/8" diamond plate idea. Currently, I'm awaiting an e-mail back from JPP on the shipping cost of one of their floors; not sure I want to deal with fitment issues/ quality of metal of the panels made in the P.I. There's plenty other work to keep me busy in the meantime...

 

Well, I've decided to go with a JPP replacement floor (if I can get in touch with them!). Although not a resto, I want to keep as much of the original look as possible to help with resale if ever needed. Plus, I can't see any benifit in re-engineering a design that has worked for MANY years... Thanks to all for the input; now it's time to build some momentum!!

 

Please take a bunch of pics during the process...I need to do the same and I'm sure others would appreciate the buildup process.

The owner of JP+ is Sheldon Greene. He's had trouble w/ his site provider for his website and such. I think he's working w/ someone else on getting a new site going. I'd suggest as others have to just call him. I'm lucky enough to live 60 miles away so went directly to his house to have him make me a custom top w/ ribs. He's great to work with -just try a phone call for the faster route.
