Is there such a thing in a rear wheel drive vehicle? Last night I freed up my throttle linkage as it was only opening about half way due to my rotted and sagging body. I just though my motor was getting tired and never thought the throttle could be binding.

Feels like a dropped a V8 in the thing now that it can breathe right  However when I let off the throttle after getting in the upper RPM's and not shifting into a higher gear, the rear end feels like it wants to shimmy to the side for a moment. Is this my Trac-Loc doing its job?

All the ubolts and spring bolts appear tight.

Joe back when mine was running and in good tune, if you stuck your foot into hard it would get squirly when it got wound up to about 4000rpm and would flex bad under de-celeration making it feel like it was walking sideways under torque, I would say that what you are feeling is normal for something that sits as high as your Jeep and has the power to weight ratio that these things have.
It is a good head rush isn't it? ;)

I'm with Mike on this one. It's likely just the power-to-weight ratio.

(I thought you put the Aussie in the back?)

Sounds like the rear locker is doing it. i have the same thing with my jeep. If you have a FF kit in the rear make sure they are both locked, i didnt have them all the way locked last month and it went to the side very fierce

Mine pulls to the right when I put my foot in it, then pulls left when I lift out of it, Usually scares passengers who haven't been in it before..lol.

No locker in the back, just the factory Trac-Loc. I guess this is something that I just never noticed before. Thanks guys!

You've probably already done it but check the spring bushings. If worn they can cause the rear axle to shift around. Also, put a socket and torque wrench on the u-bolts. They can appear tight but still be loose enough to allow the axle housing to move around.
Like was said above, a lot of that is normal movement because of frame flex of these old beasts. I'd still double check the above though just to be on the safe side. Nickmil. :stout:

My '68 does it. I can feel the whole jeep tweek up when I'm really on the gas. If I let off quickly it just lets go and changes direction. It's all the flex and slop. My springs are old and worn, so are the bushings. I'm looking forward to my new springs helping some of that.

Thats one reason I find myself towing more often. I just dread panic stops on ashpalt. Not only does it get squirrly after letting off the gas, but then ya stomp on the brakes (old drums) and there's no telling which direction you're gonna go.

I understand that squirrly thing completely. I still have some on acceleration but the stopping issue has been helped alot by the disc brake swap out I just finished
