power steering conversion

I have been converting my 1967 cj;5 to power steering. I have used a saginaw steering box off of a buick. I have also baught a steering kit with the drive links and tyrods from Herm. Now I have ran into a small problem the tyrod that connects to the drag link on the passengers side is draging on the top of the spring. I spoke to herm his suggestion is to put a spacer between the axle and the spring, but I am not really liking this Idea. Any suggestions?

 

Nothing really wrong with shims if its done right.
Once you have the power steering you will probabaly need more caster if you didn't to start with and this will help greatly with this problem. Of course these are shims to a degree but it also makes the Jeep track truer running down the road.

 

I had to shim the axle when I put my p/s upgrade. I built a spacer that was 1/4". Works fine.

You could do the tie rod conversion. This puts the tie rods on top of the knuckle instead of on the bottom. You should be able to find more info on the conversion by doing a search. I did it on my 6 when I converted to PS.

 

X3 on degreed shims (not just spacers). I've got the exact same setup as you (purchased from Herm), and I got some shims for the front axle. The tie rod no longer hits, and the jeep drives MUCH better with the increase in caster.
