Im having trouble locating a serial number on the frame. Ive checked all the spots mentioned in the arcticles ive read and the only stamped number ive found was on the side wall of the frame up by the front bumper drivers side and it reads 425L thats it. That doesnt correspond with any of the serial numbers ive seen in the charts. There is no plate anywhere on the body inside or out. Any other spots to check or does anyone know what those numbers ive found represent?

Forgot to mention I have a Dept Of Defense sticker on the windshield with a number on it. Anybody know if there is anyone I might be able to contact regarding that number.

What year jeep do you have?

Not all frames have the serial number stamped on them.

If they are on the frame, they should be on the top of the passenger side in about the following locations:

They might be bold, and they might not. The numbers on my '56 frame are so faint I could barely read them when I had the bare frame up on sawhorses, and I gently cleaned the areas with fine sandpaper. My frame wasn't rusted either, they were just stamped real lightly. I wasn't even able to get a photo of them. They did match my VIN plate and title though!:D

when i bought it the papers said 1960 thats also how it is titled and registered as a 1960 cj 5 . The area by the back axle would the numbers be on top of the frame or on the sidewall. The body is on right now so I cant really see the top. I havent tried a mirror yet.

See the diagram above, on top of the frame.
