Oil for dana 300

    I have a clocked Dana 300 behind a SM465 and AMC 360. :flag:
    Question is . . . Is there such a thing as putting too much oil in it?

    Clocking it to horizontal rotates the fill plug almost 2 inches above where it would be in it's original position. If I fill it to where it reaches the fill hole will that cause a problem? :rofl: :rofl:

    The excess will blow out the vent, or should as long as it's not clogged. The only other thing I can think of is the oil "may" aerate but I've never heard of it being an issue on a 300, clocked or other wise. If someone has had a problem with this please chime in! Nickmil

    I was thinking that if the oil was a bit deeper it might give some lubrication to the bearings when flat towing my rig (for long trips I disconnect the rear drive shaft).
    I've read about "paddles" that will lube the bearings when towing but have never seen them for sale.

    Anyone know what volume of oil a "normal" D300 holds. (can't seem to find the answer to that either).

    The deeper oil and flat transfer case will indeed help with the towing issue as the oil will be flowing around the output bearings. Someone on this board had some of the paddled sleeves for sale a while back. Might throw it out in off-topic and see if they still do. Can't remember who it was.
    I want to say Tri-County Gear in I think Pomona, CA was making those but it's been a while.
    My service info shows refill of 4.0 pints of SAE 85w-90 API GL-5 gear oil.
