    Yup.... Not anymore

What was wrong with using U-bolts over the axle to a flat plate below the springs? Am I missing something here? That would eliminate the hardware you just created.

Bruce at the time I re did the suspension it was to avoid beating the bolts up on the rocks (had some real damage on the Rubicon) and to gain the extra clearance....................thanks John

Fix looks great Jim! I wonder if all the tire chirping your son did had anything to do with it? :)

I used something similar, a plate from a '79 Dodge pickup, for the top of my axles:

I cut the shock mount and nub off. They would've been too high.

There's also a pre-made craddle available for the bottom of the axle that holds the square u-bolts in the right place, with a hole for the centering pin, but I can't remember where I got them right now. Christian (Dummy) probably knows off the top of his head if anyone needs them. He's the one that pointed it out to me that I needed them.

Mike.....I made retainers for the bottom of the springs that work really well......you can kinda see them in the last pic I posted.......I like the Dodge units, probably woulda/shoulda gone that route back when I first did the mod. I'm liking how this turned out so will just keep them and move onto the next project.........Hope to be out wheeling again in a couple weeks

Cool man. Yeah, it all works. Just throwing out another option for people that may be leary of building their own. It's nice to have that little bit of extra clearance.
Hope to catch up with you on the trail this season. Temp is getting about perfect in the desert.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

do we have additional stress/forces in play with the front-to-back arrangement of the U bolts vs the side-to-side normal placement of the U bolts ?
    me no engineer

Fixed the ubolt issues, need to fab/weld new shock mounts on the rear axle. In my spare time I've been buttoning up odds n ends so when spring hits I can make a concerted effort to sell it. In the event it doesn't sell I won't be heart broken, it is what it is

Been a long time. The 6 was sold after our move to east TN. I found it again roughly 2 years ago in the ozarks. Sadly that owner decided to sell and I have since lost it again.

Dad bought an early bronco in 2013 or so but it was rusted beyond repair. He is currently building a 66 beetle with a Subaru 2.5 engine.
I have a 78 second gen bronco and wound up working at James Duff as the engineer for a couple years. If anyone would like contact information for dad, please reach out. I’ll try to get him logged in for an update but he’s even more of a computer curmudgeon in his old age…
