Someone pass the pipe. front bumper idea

I have been thinking at some point I want to put a reciever hitch on the front bumper of Chia. At first I was worried about stiffening up the front end and getting rid of all the flex. Well now that I have boxed the front framerails and am putting in the saganaw box I realized I don't want any flex up there anyway. So my idea was to maybe box the front bumper between the framerails to stiffen that up while keeping the look of the open C-channel at the ends. Then putting the reciever tube into that to allow for easier backing of trailers in my yard and a future winch mount up there.
Anyone think this is a bad idea?

More for Dad since he can't back anything up. He always forgets to reverse his steering inputs R)

No problem. Just dont use the original skinny metal bumper. I used a piece of 1/4 inch C channel and wouldn't hesitate to use it for what you are going to use it for.

There shouldn't be any problems with doing it and I know a few folks who have done about the same thing. I agree on maybe using a thicker C-channel bumper though.

I heard about a boat yard once that had a jeep as a yard tractor for moving boats arround. They used a hydrolic trim unit off an outboard, mounted to raise and lower the trailer ball to pick up trailers. Doesn't really have anything to do with what you're talking about but sounded cool.

I have 2 receivers ont he front of my cj-7.

Makes a great plow mount without losing ground clearance.

I have to agree there. I've had that pic saved on my computer for a long time now, and some have even told me that there is a Jeep in the pic, but I have yet to see it.:) :) :)

Towbar shackles can be made to work too.

Thats sort of where I took the idea. The local sailboat club that my neibors belong to have a tractor with a front reciever for putting boats into the water. I did not think it would make it that much easier till one day I put the sunfish in and I could not believe how easy it was.
Maybe I will wait if I need new C-channel since this is one of those later addons that is not required to be able to drive Chia.

I was just hoping to be able to box that front in just to have something easy to do after class one day or something. Welding always calms me down if I am annoyed at something.
