Custom Tarp

    I had this made locally, and couldn't be happier with it. It's made out of heavy duty black vinyl to match the Jeep top.

    It secures to the trailer using a long length of bungee running the perimeter of the tarp in a tube that's been sewn into the tarp. Then right where the trailer tarp hooks are the tube has cutouts that let the bungee out of the tube to grab the hook.

    No grommets, no snaps, and hopefully enough play to allow for the vinyl and load to shrink or grow a bit.

    Cost $120 - very fair price IMHO.

    No (at least I didn't notice, but didn't inspect the tarp inch by inch in my hurry to get it put on), but I plan to put some pipe insulation all the way around the trailer tub upper lip - mostly because I wrapped the Herculiner over the edge and don't want it to tear up the tarp.

    Looks GREAT! would look even better behind a JEEP! Would look much much better behind MY JEEP.

    Thanks folks...not sure if the bungee is the way to go yet. There's just *so* much stretch in a bungee of that length. Without stretching it sticks out 1' or so on each side (so 2' "too long" overall). If I work it around I can stretch each side of the bungee up to the front hooks on the trailer sides, so 12' of stretch or so! Quite some tension at that point too - if a hook lets go....:shock:

    Test drove it around last night though and it didn't seem to make much difference having the bungee "supertight" or "sortatight".

    Some kind of a ratchet strap setup might be nice too -- if I could figure out how to keep the ratchet mechnanism from banging up the paint.

    Mike,
    Try some of the poly cord that is used on the M101CDN tarps. If you want a test piece shoot me an email or PM w/ your home address and I can send you a foot or so off from mine.
    McMaster-Carr carries this stuff.

    Thanks Wally - if that's the same stuff they give you pieces of when you buy the flat tarps I wasn't real big on it either....seemed abrasive on the paint. I think if I go with rope I'll get something softer.

    But then again I'm no Boy Scout, so getting it tied tightly might not be fun...
