AZ Boys: Warning

Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by James P. Enderwies, Jul 17, 2006.

  1. For all of us that live in AZ, a word of caution. I haven't driven my Jeep in 3 weeks--it's HOT here--120*!! I put the batt charger on it at trickle charge before trying to start it. Usually have to crank it a while to get gas into the carb. It started fine after the second bout of cranking. BUT, I smelled gas:shock: . Shouldn't be flooded while it's running:? I looked over at my fuel line from the metal inline filter to the hard line to the carb itself and   !! A " spurting" fountain of gas !!! The rubber fuel line had cracked at the filter connection. Luckly, no fire broke out. Now, that line is only 3 years old!!! Replaced it in 5 min. with no problems. Will later replace the line from the pump to the filter later (have it covered with "Cool-Tek" insulated tubing).

So, if you live in a HOT area, consider changing your rubber fuel lines every couple of years. Mine were the best Gates fuel line.
