Wonder what issues the cam button install are going to create?

I doubt that it'll create any as many times as I've had the front timing cover off and back on and it didn't change a thing.

    sooo.......
did you ever take the hood off and drive it around ?

This would have changed the volume of ambient air present in the engine compartment.
This rapid change would have altered the compressed staus of charge air coming into the compartment.
Charge air, in simple terms, is air that is charged coming into the compartment hydrostatically by a process hard to describe in the space allowed here.
Any change of charge air compression into the compartment results in an immediate loss of negative air flow, therfore affecting performance.
The charge air now has many means of escaping directly/indirectly from the compartment. Ambient air is not directly effected by this escape of charge air and remains somewhat constant.
With the now present negative air flow one might experience an increase in loss of idle speed, and the engine runs poorly at lower/higher engine RPMs, most noticable in high gear. This is due to the CFI being slightly imbalanced.
this would indicate a leaky/faulty carb base gasket

I had the same thing on my 68, turns out it was a tiny, and I mean tiny piece of rubber clogging up the pick up tube in the tank, it's small and doesnt take much. I went through all the things you did, carbs, pumps, lines and all it was was a clogg

air works harder than you think
did you know it compresses and expands ?
that it shrinks and enlarges ?
do you know how many cubic inches are in 1 square foot of air ?
do you know how many vac leaks it takes to make a V6 run poorly?

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

too much air, and you choke
not enough air, and you suffocate
people chase air around and try to find where it is and where it is not
