I was wondering if a HEI Disributer will work on a 225 Odd Fire? A friend of mine is willing to sellit to me for 30 bucs.. any help would be great

Negative. The oddfire distributor is very unique and I really can't think of anything that can be "modified" to fit other than a 231 evenfire distributor.

I just put a D.U.I. distributor in my '66 odd fire (http://www.performancedistributors.com/). It's basically an aftermarket HEI.....not cheap though. My one complaint so far is that I had to grind some of the intake manifold and one of the bolts in order for the new distributor to fit. The jeep isn't wired yet....so I'll let you know in a month or so if I think the distributor was worth it...

agreed. you can use either an oddfire HEI from an oddfire 231 v6 buick/GM or you can modify an evenfire HEI from an evenfire 231 v6 buick/GM as per the tech thread on this site.

part of the deal is that you generally need to grind the edge of the intake manifold so that the wider HEI dist will clear it.

my conversion using a 1977 buick skylark oddfire v6 dist was well worth it. but it was much less than a dui. even so the conversion to hei was certainly a step up. much smoother, no sneezing, quicker, more lowend, it will easily idle at 500 rpm (though it is much smoother at the normal 630 rpm) and i can tell just from the smell of the exhaust that it is burning cleaner.

I have a HEI from CRT Performance. It is wonderful.
If you look on there webpage, it is listed with the 258. Give them a call and they can answer the question. www.driveajeep.com

they arent that expensive from FLAPS. i got mine 3 yrs ago for $137. upgrades would be a hotter coil @ like 45kv and some spiral core wires, that would make it run AWESOME. but it does well with just the HEI setup correctly.

All or the write ups I've ever seen on this state that you have to grind the manifold and install a button head allen bolt in the front position on the manifold. GM had a specific PN for this. I got mine at a hardware store for 50 cents.

Do you know the part number, or do you have a picture of what you got from the hardware store? I guess I'm late to the party considering I just got my HEI but I only read today that shaving the intake manifold might be involved. (With my lack of fabrication skills, I'd like to avoid that if possible)

I took the stock bolt to the hardware store and matched it up. I bought a button head but still had to grind it down. Baby steps, just grind, test fit and repeat until you get it to fit.

Do you have another picture backed out a little bit more? I'm looking at the HEI's position and how you labeled each plug.
