And that's such a horrible thing because...... :?

I'd never get the old lady more than 500 feet away from an operational shower, let alone a 50-amp hookup to run the A/C. And we try to avoid the crowds whenever possible (i.e, It's our tradition to go somewheres the weekend AFTER labor day).

Me likey the Dodge MH too. But every step taken in the direction of adding more convenience or comfort seems to chip away at some of the charm of camping. Tough balancing act.

Probably nothing to do with this topic but I remember an old newsreel that showed Henry Ford and Thomas Edison on a camping trip. Struck me odd (at the time) that two wealthy men chose to spend some leisure time tent camping instead of being at an expensive resort.

Yes Edison, Ford and it was Firestone who was the third used to camp together, If I remeber it right one of the cars they used had an accident so they brought it to the local mechanic. As they watched him repair the vehicle each one chimed in w/ their expertise. The annoyed mechanic said he knew what he was doing and who did they think they were that they could possibly know more than he did. The one gent said he was Firestone and he knew how best to restore the tires and Edison said he knew a few things about electricity and H. Ford said I own Ford Motor company. That was the story as I remember hearing it. Imagine being able to sit around that campfire!

there is a guy in Tehachapi CA that has collected old foldout camping trailers and some of the original Coleman products; his backyard (read acreage) is set up like an old campground, complete with the trailers and old gear, and he opens it all up at certain times of the year to the public.
they discuss the above mentioned Firestone/Ford trip (s) and even have a couple photos

EDIT: David Woodworth is the gentlemen with the pre-WWII camping trailers and house cars

 

I don't know if I would believe them if they told me the same thing.
