Well it’s official. I’ve waited a year to deal with this and now I’m in a time crunch before this months Jeep Jamboree…

Quick question before I go down a rabbit hole .

Is there any aftermarket support for an intermediate CJ gas tank skid plate?

or are the fab skills getting used?

I bought a plate for my 74. I have not installed it yet. I believe it is made for a 76. I need to do a little fabricating

Yeah the crossmember forward of the fuel tank is different and the tank itself will need to be modified…

I did a little trail and error..

Because I haven't gotten around to it, the (I assume) OEM skid plate from my '74 is still on a shelf in the garage. Happy to take measurements if that helps you any.

I also went the 76+ route. Factory tank 15 gal tank drops right into the skid plate and bolts down with the strap. It will require some light fabrication, new crossmember to hold the front of the tank and some modifications to rear to accept the mounting bolts.

Much nicer setup than the factory skid and tank arrangement.

Mine is like this, tank from a ‘78. It’s super easy and strong.
