I would say if you get a cable it will reliable since its only mechanical. The only down side of cable is you have to install the cable without any kick or tight turn for an easy actuation. If you going to a electric or air actuator i would just go with a eaton e-locker.

I have an OX locker in the dana 44 (rear). The cable is run into the floor pan between the pass/driver's seats. The locker works perfectly and I have never had any problems with the cable.

I always cringe a bit when I think about a locker in a D30. IMHO the axle is a little light for full lockers, especially under a heavy foot.

I run an ox air locker in my D30. Absolutely love it. Just a presto lock fitting that screws into the diff cover, so very little to hit and break off.

BJhitson ran one front at rear on the Rubicon last year. He had electronic activators on both I believe.
I know at one point he was questioning if the electric actuators were working. I would probably go cable myself if running an OX.

I have ARB air lockers in D30/AMC 20 combination.
Although I am a Rubi virgin, my Jeep is a multiple Rubicon veteran.

I've used Detroit locker on the street before, the air lockers are the cat's azz.

Over 10 years back, a group went out on a Sunday mud-run. One of the Miami guys had an Ox-locker up front in his Jeep. It was a cable operated one, and it got jammed in the locked position. On dry portions of the drive, his Jeep was nearly impossible to steer. The cable routing was less than desirable, and we never got it unlocked until it was trailered back to his shop.
I’m sure these have been refined since his early version to make them more reliable, and I haven’t heard of problems since this example,
I have an ARB air locker in a Land Rover (rear), and have had issues with the spool o-rings. I’ve had to change them out a couple times, and finally think that problem has been solved with the brown O-rings.
A selectable locker is really nice.
