Parts are still rolling in...AA stuff arrived yesterday, tcase gasket kit and new clutch cable today. But still waiting for the clutch from Rock Auto, can't get far without it!

Haven't had much CJ time lately, but I took a few minutes this evening to hang the flywheel and clutch on the Dauntless. The new transmission shaft makes a dandy alignment tool!

The bearing puller I have is too short to use with this mile long input shaft. I'm thinking about cutting it, am I destroying anything of value? Is this some coveted part for a Jeep truck enthusiast?

If you have a good front bearing retainer to go with it it has good value. If all you have is the input shaft, not so much.

Can you run some bolts through the splitter to just push against the case?

I used to collect them. I was going to market my t18 kit to run behind a 134. I used the long input to machine the new input out of. I have a bin full of them somewhere.

I guess I didn't realize the shaft needed pulled off the bearing to disassemble the T-18.

So, next problem - I got the trans apart, and the new input shaft is a different size than the old one where the synchro ring rides on it. Do I need a different shaft? Can I get a different ring to make this work? The old synchro ring seems quite thick...

IIRC correctly ( and I may not) since the short input is for Ford I seem to remember that you need the Ford version synchro. There's a couple quirks between the Ford and Jeep version.
Every long input Jeep T18 I've worked on the long retainer was half worn through. Be sure to check your bellhousing for indexing. I had a Lakewood scatter shield that was massively out causing me throwout issues. Currently running an AA bell that has multiple patterns drilled in. It was very close and I had to dremel fit the retainer it was a little tight.

All I can tell you is there is a huge mess of T18s out there, and unless you know what it came from, its tough to match parts. I focused on the front retaining bearing part number to match what I used a that worked for me. Nick would be the best resource on this IMOP as he knows these "things" inside and out.

Also note there are two different thickness Ford input bearings and you need the one the matches your input shaft.

Mine was also a several weeks project. Did the YJ hanging pedals at the same time. Worth the effort.
