    In 71 you could get it either way.

    Mmm. I thought all '71s got the rear tank, and the transition year was 1970.

    My '70 has a Factory rear tank, but I've no idea how common it was for '70

    Another who thinks 70 was the transition year...previous threads have suggested the transition began around March of 1970.

    Mid 70 is correct.
    My 70 came with the under seat tank, but I've seen others with the rear tank.

    Yes, all 71’s have the rear tank with the underseat being an option. 70 was the transition year.

    Interesting, my 71 Ren II came with a saddle tank only. It was yellow, which to my knowledge was only offered in the 71 model year.
