After this past summer's wheeling adventures I figured it was time to make a few small changes. Overall, it's not too bad for a cheap knockoff.
I'll be taking the 4.88s out and putting 3.73s back in. I'll have to find a set for the D30 and while I'm regearing the D44 I'll go ahead and measure for then order the full float shafts.
The frame end shackle bushings are shot so that needs to be addressed....maybe.
Biggest problem with this machine is the engine is just wore out. I've neglected to do anything to it besides add oil every trip. I'll probably just pull the head and go from there. I have 3 fheads and I haven't seen 2 of them in over a year so there's no telling where they are. I should just build the HiPo Fhead I was working on and be done with it.

Would you consider 4.27's if you had a set for the rear?
Will there be a Dino slip?

3.73s will put me at a good rpm for cruising speed with the 33s and in low range it won't be too slow and the rpm will be more reasonable.

I believe there's a chassis dyno around here.

If anyone has experience with custom cam grinds I pulled these numbers from my notes. I don't recall much besides the cam being suited to higher rpm applications.

Yep, I don't think that cam is going to do anything for your bottom end torque. You may want something lower than 3.73's.

Yea, it wasn't really meant for bottom end torque.

Got the gears cleaned up and still working on the wheel hubs. The gears are good enough for this junk.

Picked up a few things this weekend.

Fhead valves, springs, gasket set, and a few other misc. items.

Rifled through a pile of tires and found one in a 305/70/16.

This wheel and tire combo should do fine for a spare, just have to patch the wheel up.

Brought a spare fhead crankshaft down here so I could see about cleaning it up. One of my duties at work is to grind or polish crankshafts so I should be able to slip this in between jobs if it checks out.

Runout is .003" so that justifies turning according to the fsm.

I took a total of .139" between the head and block already. The block should be zero deck. I still haven't figured up exact piston to valve clearance.

I'll be pulling the engine out shortly and tearing it down. I figure since I'm going through all the trouble I'd try the R2G, assuming I can figure out throttle linkage, and then I get to do a hood scoop. :n:
Another thing I plan to do is cut the front spring hangers and bumper off and try to redo them. It's going to be a mess removing the spring hangers. I also need to address the passenger rear spring hanger.

It took a few hours but I found the carb and adapter.

I would have cut the spring hangers off too but I'm waiting for jack stands to arrive. Maybe I'll start working on pulling the engine tomorrow.

Last night I did some CAD. This should be closer to what I needed when I put the 3b together the first time. This will fix a few issues I have too.

Alright well, I'm fairly stubborn... If I had some steel I'd have made some new hangers and welded them on too. No sense in dragging this out. :D

I'll try to do better this time.

Yea this is a complete mess. I welded in the radiator mounts in the rain so the placement wasn't exactly great and I was in such a hurry to finish the 3b, I never actually finished it.

It'll be storming tomorrow so I put it in the living room where I'll tear it down. The stock rubber engine mounts already cracked and split apart.

Before removing the fhead, I took the springs and shackles off the frame to look at the new spring hanger placement. This explains some of my bushing woes.

Seriously. It's a miracle this pos made it down the road and trails without catastrophic failure. Then again, I did build it so shame on me.

One spring hanger for test fitting purposes. I think it should work just fine.

Got the old mill tore down. It's just plumb wore out. Of course, I wasn't easy on it one bit and it nary complained.

Only spilled a drop of oil on the floor.

I failed to bring my valve spring compressor home from work so I had to improvise.

I'll take it to work, get everything cleaned, and checked out. Hopefully, it's a good builder.
