I watched the youtube videos of Blake Wilkey building his Mint 400 Baja bug and he used it all over the place including the bare chassis. It looks like a pretty good product. He is sponsored by them though so it could just be contractual..

    skip to 12:45 ish

I really struggle to trust a product when it's sponsored, especially when they rave about it. I mean, if I had free cases of krylon coming to the house, you bet I'd paint my jeep in it. And if I was being paid to promote it? I'd like it.....

Not when you're building a jeep engine in your living room with the transmission under the kitchen table, you have zero budget and this is going to be your DD cause you need a second working vehicle.

Yeah, my DD 25 years ago was a 1947 cj2a. Krylon was cheaper than rustolium and I was happy to have it. Built that jeep with basic hand tools and a CHilton manual to free up the t-90 and D 18.. Also used it to build the wiring harness.. I did get a universal manual to rebuild the F head.. Yeah, hole in hood...

I look back at pictures.. What a pile of absolute garbage.

But did it not suffice for your use? There is a place for POS's, even if they happen to be a JK.

Steel-it might be something I would like to try.

My wife told me to buy it when I saw it in the paper on our one year anniversary. Took our entire 500 buck savings to own and I had to tow it home.. frozen transmission, 2 spun main bearings....Burnt exhaust vales and broken rings...Square bias ply tires..

Did it ever suffice what I needed in so many ways!.. I loved that jeep way more than I ever should have. There's nothing better than driving to work in the snow in AZ with no top in a POS that you build in the yard with zero money with your own 2 hands. That thing has Denman ground hawgs and the ross box. If you know, you know.. Stock brakes too... once again.. if you know...

Flat towed it to Olympia Wa where I grafted a steel hardtop to my 2a half cab because of th rain.. Drove it there as a DD for some time too.. My wife even drove it occasionally..

When I had to move to the east coast, I had to sell it.. I cried big fat ugly tears when I signed over the title..

    It depends...

I raced National Off-road motorcycles for more than a decade, with my last race a 24 hour event when I was 52, and had a lot of sponsors. My rule was if I wouldn't spend my money on the product, I wouldn't accept sponsorship. I wanted to have confidence in the product I supported and recommended.

With that said, a lot of riders would take whatever they could get from whomever would provide tires, cloths, bikes, parts, etc., and I wouldn't trust their opinion about anything...

  11. I used it to repaint my shocks last summer. It was super easy to paint with and is holding up great. It would look great on a roll bar.

Thanks, I was looking for first hand experience. I might just try it, I think the darker color.

There are many of these urethane paints on the market. I believe they are all "moisture cured urethane" MCU, which is a single-stage coating that cures when exposed to moisture in the air. I am familiar with Aluthane, which is an aluminum-filled MCU. https://paints-coatings-epoxies.com/a_aluthane_aluminum_paint.html Aluthane uses aluminum pigment, which dries to a silvery appearance. These coatings both seal out moisture and air by shingling the impermeable pigment within the urethane matrix, as well as scavenging water from the surface in curing.

I don't know if stainless is any better than aluminum for this purpose. I suspect this is a gimmick. Aluminum is cheap, and I predict it would stay in suspension longer than the denser steel. Maybe if you shake it enough ... from the picture above, the steel pigment looks a little darker than sprayed aluminum. Whatever pigment you use, it's only going to be as hard/tough as the surrounding polymer.

You can find comparisons of these paints online if you search.

Looks like some nice paint. I was more interested in the metal superstore. Industrial Metal Supply. I have driven by there but did not know how they were set up. Guess I need to get out of my cave [Jeep quarantine] and go do a store walkabout.

Oh man, if there was an Industrial Metal Supply closer than 500 miles, I would be there a lot. A total toy store.

Not according to their website. But with all the race cars and rock crawlers in this area, it would be an opportunity for someone.
