9” Brake Shoe Orientation?

My FSM shows different brakes than I actually have, so I’m not sure what the correct shoe orientation is supposed to be. My brakes aren’t self adjusting, but they don’t have a fixed pivot at the bottom either. So I’m not sure if the short shoe goes to the front of the Jeep or the rear. Anyone know the correct orientation?

 

That is correct for the left side of Jeep

Ok thanks. That’s how I rebuilt them, but then I started to second guess myself.

 

That is not a fixed pivot in the picture?

 

Through various observations it occurs to me that the largest shoe is always being “pushed” into the most solid anchor point.
In this case the most solid anchor is at the bottom since it is fixed and does not move.

 

you’re correct. The pivot point is fixed. But the shoe itself isn’t “fixed” to the pivot point. It is held on by tension, via a spring connecting the two shoes. That’s what threw me off. But ultimately shoes are in fact fixed at the pivot point as they can only pivot out toward the drums when brake pressure is applied. The front shoe doesn’t use the braking forces to exert pressure on the trailing shoe.
