Steering Column Dash Mount Help

I have a 71 cj5 that I am converting to Saginaw power steering. My most recent issue is figuring out how to mount my 2” diameter flaming river column to the dash. The column will need to move ~ 3” up from its stock location in order for clearance around exhaust, u-joint angles and room in the lap. I don’t mind cutting the original dash as bubba has put so many holes it should really be replaced or a skin laid over. The column was free to me and I’d really like to use it as I have already bought the wiring harness and gm style connections for blinkers, ignition etc. Any ideas or photos would be greatly appreciated. I have used this sites search feature as well as 3 other search engines with no luck.

Jeep has 11” drums at 4 corners and a slick clutch linkage (the only good thing bubba did) I have made a throttle linkage and pedal so hanging pedals isn’t something I’d like to tackle just yet.

When I put my Flaming River column in, I used the original Jeep clamp at the bottom of the dash

If you need to move it up, look at picking up or duplicating a later dash. They are already set up for the column going through the dash instead of under it like the early CJ5s.

Those also use a large metal flange to mount it to the dash, which is welded to the steering column.

What the two above posts suggest, find an intermediate ('72-'75) dash and copy the horseshoe collar on the column.
