Working down the list of challenges for an engine swap from my 5cyl Dauntless to an '81 231 even fire that I have in my garage.

    stock 231 intake.

I'm wanting to use a Holly Sniper EFI and I have this aluminum intake that I'd like to use. Its a Holly street dominator intake.

    This says odd-fire to me?

    Is this a straight swap?

I'm almost positive that your aluminum intake is for an even fire. We have the same intake on Steve's even fire 231.

Youll have to check it out against the intake gasket but it should work. Those Holley intakes are a post oddfire thing. Theres a screwy first year of evenfires that had low port heads but 79- post were the taller ports. Firing order remains the same even/odd. Difference is in the crank journals.
What will be the disposition of your iron intake ?
Edit: i searched 701-r22 says 79 and up

This is what I was concerned about...

Firing order is the same no matter odd or even. The magic of the odd fire is the uneven firing angle thought the crankshaft rotation.

Yes, same firing order just a different or unevenly spaced, timing phase with the crank.

OK cool. I have an intake gasket set at home and I'll just try to bolt this on. Is there any reason I shouldn't use this? Is there a downside? Thanks

If this fits, I think it is just going on the shelf. Do you need it?

Ive been looking for an even fire factory intake. Id like to use the Holley Sniper 2gc injection on another project.

I wouldn’t hesitate to run it. You will need to plug the vent hole in the back of it.

I ran the same intake on my 225 for years. Swapped it out for an Offy Dual Port because I thought it would give more low end power, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

As has been said quite a few times already...but just to reiterate....the firing order is the same for odd and even fire...its just the unequal (odd) crank rotation between the spark fire....Much like Doug, I would have been worried the holley dominator intake was geared just a bit more towards higher rpm performance, not exactly off road low rpm usage....but maybe it doesn't really matter.

My search found my own topic from a couple years ago.

I’m about to swap the Holly intake over to a Dauntless. Again concerned about the compatibility between the even and odd fire intake?

    Anyone else concerned?

As I posted above, I ran one on my stock Dauntless for years. I've been thinking about a Qjet, so it may go back on there.

you gonna run it only on the front barrels?

Qjet's are good if set up correctly. I'm going to run one along with an Offy dual port, HEI, and a rv torque cam. Once all installed it's off to the rod shop and placed on a dyno for final tuning.

The good smaller Q-Jets were a great swap. There was a specific model Mr C would look for that has escaped me over the years. The smaller CFM version was easier to tune and he could get the secondaries to kick in at a point.

You'll need an adapter the dual ports are square bore pattern. The Qjet is spread bore.
