So I panel beat out my fan blade escape damage old school with a hammer, dolly and a torch. I got a local body shop guy to paint the hood. Now I need to put it back on. Was/is there a gasket or some sort of rubber between the hood and the hinge, or was it just metal on metal? There was no material when I removed it. I need to clean up the hinge before I install the hood but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

In the 'mid-70s I recall the underside of the body was not painted. The whole body had gray e-cost (electrocoat). Spray the engine compartment and inner fenders as far down as possible, close the hood and spray the body. Somehow I recall no paint other than the gray e-coat under the hinges. I think we've been through this before, and the specifics changed with the era.

    Thank you guys.

There didn't appear to be anything there. I could see black paint in areas, which was the original color, but it was resprayed red at some point. Either way most of that area under the hinge was not painted and it made me think if I was missing something. I'll clean up the hinge side and just bolt it right up then.
