Windshield To Cowl Rubber Seal ?

I am getting tired of buying parts that do not fit.

I bought a new seal for the windshield in my 67 CJ5. When it was delivered I was impressed by the apparent quality of the seal, and put it on the shelf until I got to the point of installing it.

I tried to install it yesterday and found out it is almost exactly one inch too long. The windshield it is supposed to fit is 59", and the seal is slightly less than 60". The only way it can be used is to trim about 1/2" off on each end between the end blocks and the middle section and try to bond the rubber back together. Not what I want to do.

Has anyone out there bought a seal that actually fits the early CJ5 Jeep?

And no it is not Omix-ADA. I bought it from a supplier known for quality parts and this is the first time I ever got anything from them that did not fit.

sad to see. unfortunate that original quality parts aren't hardly available anymore.

Everything else I have bought from this supplier has been top notch, and I will not share who it was because I have a good relationship with them and do not want to do any harm to their business.

Besides, when I search other sites I find the same sort of complaints about fitment in the reviews, so it is apparently a wide spread manufacturing defect. The quality of the rubber and molding are very good, and if I can't find one that fits I will trim 3/8" on each end where the middle piece meets the end pieces and glue it back together.

I bought a replacement off eBay years ago. Exact figment, no issues. Every hole lined up, and length exactly as the original.

The new seal I have is just like yours, after reading your post I went out to the shop and measured mine too and sure enough about 1inch too long. If you find a good glue that would work let me know. The only thing that comes to mind is the glue the tire repair guys use to glue those rubber plug/patches used in tires where the patch is placed inside the tire.??maybe.

I've held off on getting a new seal for years for the exact reasons you mention. I didn't think that there's a "good" one out there. Based on some of the responses, I may have been wrong.

I hope you figure out a workaround, or find a replacement that fits well. I'll be following along. :watch:

I just ordered one for my '56 CJ5 through the eBay link posted above. It should arrive next week and I'll try to install it before I head out of town. I will post here about the fit after installation, but based on other's experiences with this vendor I expect/hope it to be OK. Stay tuned.

I ordered mine through Morris 4x4, it fit perfectly. Even the small screw mostly lined up. December of last year is when I ordered mine.

The one I got off the eBay link posted above (QTM Jeep Parts) doesn’t fit well on my ‘56 CJ5. The rubber is nice and pliable but the piece is slightly narrower than the original as well as slightly longer as others have noted above from other vendors. I went ahead with the install and will be looking for a proper fitting piece.

If you think these are bad you should see the crap options available for a 3A windshield to Cowl seal. I bought 5 different ones and none fit right.

The one TonyM posted fits better than the one I got. The only way to make that one fit will be to cut 3/8" off each end and bond it back together. I am thinking Gorilla super glue would work.

Meanwhile, I requested measurement on one I found on Ebay and the seller reported it measures 58 3/4" which is probably correct so I ordered one of those.

If it fits I am going to put it away and save if for when I re-paint the Jeep and hack up the other one to use until then. I plan to get the Jeep drivable and run it as is for a Summer shake down to get all the mechanics in good order. Then I will do the cosmetic rehab this Fall.

Keep us updated when you get it. I too would rather have one that fits as it should.

Super glue works great on rubber. Almost like it was made for it.

Received and installed a cowl seal from Midwest Military. It fits! Should have gone to John first - I knew better. Oh well. 94C9914A-47FA-4AFB-A34F-2F0B0F3F834F.jpeg F7BF5480-B2E3-4AD9-B924-BF4A4B1444E7.jpeg

Just got the other seal today, and it fits perfectly.

I ordered this from "Live Fast Supply" on eBay. If you search eBay for "Precision Windshield Cowl Weatherstrip Seal for Jeep CJ5 CJ6" it will come up with a listing with a picture of a red Jeep.

The label on the package is branded "Precision Replacement Parts Corp".

The seal is high quality rubber and to me it looks like an exact match to an original, but mine was so deteriorated it crumbled when removed so I cannot be 100% sure about that, but it fits and should serve the purpose well.

After seeing your post I ordered the same one. I haven't installed it yet, but it is the correct length and looks like it is good quality. Thanks!

I just ordered one from Oldpappy's supplier ''Live Fast Supply" for my 74. will post when it get's here on quality and fitment as well.
Not to hijack the thread but who has bought good quality windshield glass rubber seals with the locking strip that fit correctly? The glass and seal should be the same on cj5 1968 thru 1975 with the arch top glass and bottom mounted wipers.
